Due to tight security for the 60th Anniversary and Special Activities at the D-Day Memorial we were not able to operate from the Memorial grounds on July 6. However, operation of WW2DDM was conducted by various folks from their homes or from remote locations.
Don, K4PK started phone operations of WW2DDM on June 6 at 0150 UTC and operated until 0320 UTC at his home and made 74 contacts on 20 Meter SSB.
Bill, KC4D activated 40 Meter SSB operating from 1035 until 1235 UTC. He made 59 contacts in the two hours of operations during the morning hours.
Frank, KE4HOA activated WW2DDM on 6 Meters, 2 Meters and 440 and made 14 contacts from 1100 until 1405 UTC.
The Roanoke Valley Amateur Radio Club set up a station at the shop of Dave Kinsey, KS4BO in Roanoke. They operated solely on 20 Meter SSB from 1700 UTC until 2200 UTC and made 260 contacts. Operators included LeRoy - AG4RW, Doug - K4WVS, Floyd - KB4WYW and Don - K4PK.
Bill, WA4BKW activated WW2DDM on 75 Meter SSB from 0040 until 0230 UTC, June 7 and made 24 contacts. Then he went to 40 Meter SSB operating from 0245 until 0345 UTC and made 23 contacts.
Buddy, W4YE began CW operations of WW2DDM at his home on June 5 at 1700 and continued until 1900 UTC. Then after having dinner with a friend who played in the Navy Band at the Memorial he resumed operations from 0045 until 0205 UTC, June 6. He began again in the morning at 1210 UTC and operated throughout the day until 0030 UTC, June 7. He made a total of 347 contacts on 20 Meter CW.
Riley, K4ORD began 40 Meter CW operations of WW2DDM on June 6 at 0045 and continued until 0425 UTC. He began again in the morning at 1310 UTC and operated on and off during the day shutting down at 0040 UTC, June 7. He operated from his home with his K2 and made 61 contacts.
Stan, K4UK began 30 Meter CW operations of WW2DDM at his home on June 6 at 2115 UTC and continued until 0315 UTC, June 7. He made 68 contacts on 30 Meters. Then he went to 80 Meter CW for 3 more contacts until 0400 UTC.
Bob, W8HGH began his RTTY
operations of WW2DDM on June 5 at 2340 and continued until 0330 UTC, June
6. He began again in the morning at 1350 UTC and continued until
1640 UTC. Then operated from 2000 UTC until 2400 UTC.
He was operating from his home and made 99 contacts on 20 Meters, 5
contacts on 30 Meters, 14 contacts on 40 Meters,
6 contacts on 17 Meters and 1 contact on 15 Meters, for a grand total
of 125 contacts.
Bill, W4BOT began his operation of WW2DDM on PSK-31 at his home at 1735 UTC and continued until 1915 UTC. Poor band conditions limited his operation on 15 and 20 Meters to a total of 8 contacts.

Prior to the June 6 operations, Stan, K4UK had operated WW2DDM in the CQ WW WPX CW Contest during the weekend of May 29-30. He operated on 80, 40, 20, 15 and 10 Meters and had a total of 394 contacts.
Then on June 12 Bob, W8HGH operated WW2DDM in the ANARTS Contest and made 25 RTTY contacts.
Frank, KE4HOA operated WW2DDM in the ARRL June VHF QSO Party
on the weekend of June 12-14.
He made 50 contacts.
The commemoration of the 60th Anniversary of
D-Day was a rousing success as far as the operation of the
Special Event Station: (W)orld (W)ar 2 (D) (D)ay (M)emorial was concerned.
All operators involved again enjoyed putting WW2DDM on the air.
The initial Operation of WW2DDM was conducted the week of June 6 through June 10, 2001.
Previous operations were connducted in 2002 and 2003
